Our Story
Life moves quickly. Calendars fill, responsibilities grow, and meaningful time with the people we care about can become increasingly difficult to protect.
Mahj in the Moment was created as an invitation to pause.
For founders Joanne Goldblatt and Lizzy Greif, Mah Jongg became much more than a game. Joanne’s experience through her work with the Ryan Goldblatt Foundation, a nonprofit named after her late son, deepened her belief in the power of bringing people together with purpose. Lizzy discovered the table during a season of personal loss, finding comfort in the chance to reconnect with others.
Their personal journeys showed them what can happen around a Mah Jongg table. People slow down and stories are shared, while friendships deepen and communities form. Milestones are honored. A gathering can even become a way to carry someone’s memory forward or support a cause that changes lives.
That meaning looks different for every gathering. It might be a group of girlfriends making time to reconnect, a family celebrating someone’s 60th birthday, colleagues building relationships outside the office, or a community coming together in support of a charitable cause. The occasion may be joyful, reflective, purpose-driven, or simply an opportunity to enjoy one another, but every table holds the possibility for connection.
Now, Joanne and Lizzy want to create those opportunities for others.
Mahj in the Moment provides everything needed to make gathering easy and beautiful—from tables and tiles to setup and thoughtful details—and you bring the people, celebration, story, or cause that gives the experience its meaning.
We Bring the Mahj. You Make the Moment. Together, We Create Mahj That Matters.
Meet Joanne

For Joanne, Mahj in the Moment is closely connected to her purpose-driven work for the Ryan Goldblatt Foundation, named after her son who she lost too early. Organizing a fundraising tournament for the foundation every year, Joanne experienced the power of community: people showing up, gathering in support, preserving a legacy, and transforming love into meaningful action.
Mah jongg became another way to create connection while bringing joy and purpose into the same space. Through Mahj in the Moment, Joanne hopes to help others celebrate the people they love, build stronger communities, and use shared experiences to support causes that matter.
Meet Lizzy
Lizzy came to mah jongg during a season shaped by the loss of family members. The game offered more than a welcome distraction: it created space for connection, companionship, and healing. Around the table, she experienced how gathering with others could bring comfort, joy, and a renewed sense of presence, even during difficult seasons.
That experience helped inspire Mahj in the Moment. Lizzy wants to give others an easy, meaningful way to step away from the demands of everyday life and reconnect with the people who matter most.
Her vision is rooted in the belief that gathering is never insignificant. A few hours around a table can strengthen a friendship, celebrate an important chapter, or simply remind someone that they are not alone.
